Preliminary Investigation

ELITE Paranormal of Kansas City was asked to investigate the 3rd Street Asylum in Bonner Springs, Kansas in 2013. Due to the size of the location and the fact that it is an active Haunted House attraction, we decided to do a preliminary investigation first.
The building itself was built in 1918 and was once the town High School and then later a middle school. The site the location sits on is very old and at one time is said to be the location of a town graveyard that was later moved.
The owners of the location reported that shadows had been seen on numerous occasions in different parts of the building. Voices and footsteps had also been reported to us by the owners who also employ many extras during the Halloween season.
The team decided to split into teams of two in order to try and cover every room withing the building. We worked with our DVR system and hand held video cameras to try and capture as much as possible. The location itself is hard to maneuver inside due to it’s conversion from a school into a scary attraction.
The team head many footsteps on the 4th floor of the building as well as a lot of movement. We didn’t capture the movement in video but we did capture a lot of audio in the building on this trip. The former Nurse’s Office also seemed to be a location that generated a lot of activity.
Harvey Althaus read the building for us via Skype and he seemed to focus on the Nurse’s Station and the front entrance to the building. During a discussion with Harvey , the entire group including the owners heard a male voice behind us in the cafeteria say something which caused everyone to turn and look. We did capture the voice but it is hard to make out what he says. We did capture a lot of EVP evidence. Much of it is whispering but some of it is quite clear. We were also able to capture some EVPs in our video as well. You will need to listen hard to hear it. Some of the audio on the 4th floor is quite amazing as two investigators sat in one of the rooms alone on that floor and were able to capture walking and talking in the hallway outside.
